WoW SoD | How to get the Shuriken Toss Rune

It’s finally arrived—Rogues’ inaugural AoE ability in WoW Classic. While Season of Discovery pledged to enable Rogues to tank, those who attempted tanking in phase one likely encountered difficulty maintaining threat against multiple targets. Shuriken Toss, a new Belt Rune introduced in phase two, may provide the solution we’ve been seeking.

Thankfully for WoW Classic Rogues, obtaining this Rune doesn’t entail a wild goose chase across Azeroth. Follow these straightforward steps, and you’ll soon be adept at tossing shurikens.

Where to find the Shuriken Toss Rune in WoW Classic Season of Discovery

This one’s a bit of a trek. Begin by journeying to Swamp of Sorrows in the Eastern Kingdoms. For Alliance, the quickest route is to fly to Darkshire and proceed east through Deadwind Pass. As Horde, take the zeppelin to Grom’Gol, head north into Duskwood, then follow the same path as the Alliance.

In Swamp of Sorrows, navigate to coordinates 42, 30. There, you’ll encounter a small black chest beside a tree. Attempting to open the chest triggers a poison dart trap from a nearby tree (located to the left of the chest). Use Disarm Trap on the poison dart trap to spawn the Rune of the Assassin inside the chest (visible as sparkling). Loot the Rune and utilize it to learn Shuriken Toss.

Does Shuriken Toss make Rogue tanks viable?

I bring both good and bad tidings. The upside is that Rogue tanks should see substantial improvements in survivability during phase two. The new Rolling with the Punches Rune boosts your maximum health by six percent every time you dodge or parry, up to a maximum of 30 percent. Consequently, you’ll be less susceptible to critical hits and spell damage significantly reducing your health pool.

The downside, however, is that at present, Shuriken Toss deals minimal damage and lacks a bonus threat modifier, rendering it ineffectual. Consequently, maintaining threat on multiple targets remains challenging, and while Redirect occasionally aids in transferring combo points, its reliability is questionable. Here’s hoping Blizzard enhances Shuriken Toss soon, sparing us the need to tab target and sacrifice our combo points to retain threat on enemy groups.
