Solve the Great Plateau trapped statue puzzle in Tears of the Kingdom

In Tears of the Kingdom, encountering the statue at the Temple of Time presents you with a puzzling dilemma that demands a solution.

Upon conversing with the statue, it cryptically mentions being submerged underwater but provides a precise clue about its location: “I am trapped…under the water…behind the stone gate…of the great plateau…,” as the dialogue reveals. Read further to discover how to rescue the TotK Temple of Time statue.

Where is the Temple of Time statue trapped underwater on the Great Plateau?

The Temple of Time statue, also known as the Goddess Statue, is situated south of the Gatepost Town Ruins, at coordinates -0573, -1525, 0020. The reference to a stone gate suggests the statue is positioned at the plateau’s entrance near its northern wall. If you proceed north from the Temple of Time, you’ll encounter large bodies of water around the area where a gate would typically be.

  • Head to the location on the map where the roads intersect just south of Lake Kolomo, where you’ll spot a stack of breakable rocks obstructing the wall from the opposite side, with water gushing out from between the rocks.
  • Equip a hammer—or affix one of the nearby rocks to a weapon to fashion a rock hammer, as demonstrated in the accompanying video—and start smashing. Alternatively, Bomb Flowers can serve the purpose if you have any to spare, or if you’ve already acquired the Vow on Yunobo, enlist your Goron ally to assist you.

Once you demolish the rocks, the water will drain away, leaving a few fish floundering on the ground. Beyond the gate, you’ll notice a triangular, rust-colored statue partially emerging from the earth. Engage in dialogue with it, and it will instruct you to return to the Temple of Time.

Head south and converse once again with the Temple of Time statue. It will inform you that a portion of it has been liberated and that it is communicating with you from the Depths—revealing that it isn’t actually the statue. This interaction initiates the side quest “A Call from the Depths” automatically.

This quest tasks players with visiting four locations scattered across the plateau, which will be marked with quest indicators after the quest commences. At these locations, players must retrieve “eyes” and then deposit them into nearby chasms, ultimately delivering them to the statue at the Great Abandoned Central Mine. Only then will players uncover the true connection between the Temple of Time statue and its subterranean counterpart.
