As you get ready to depart from the Red Isle and set sail for the coast of Africa or the East Indies, it’s essential to ensure your ship is in top-notch condition. In Skull and Bones, leveling up your ship is crucial for its strength and resilience, and here’s how you can achieve it.
Where to level up your ship in Skull and Bones
You can enhance your ship’s capabilities by equipping superior weapons, armor, and furnishings to elevate its rank. By outfitting your vessel with higher-tier gear, its own level will gradually increase. As your ship’s level rises, you’ll stand a better chance of navigating the treacherous waters of Ubisoft’s pirate odyssey.
You can equip these upgrades at any outpost or town with a harbor. The pirate den of Saint-Anne is a prime choice for this, as it’s a hub for crafting. Navigate to the dock menu and access the ‘Manage Ship’ tab to begin outfitting your ship. Different ships have varying capacities for weapons, with larger ships boasting more slots for guns and furnishings. Generally, the bigger the ship, the more armament it can carry.
Each ship comes with a default rank. For instance, the starting ship is Rank 1, while medium-sized ships begin at Rank 5. As you equip more items, your ship’s level will increase accordingly. Starting with a Rank 3 ship, you could end up at Rank 6 based on the potency of the equipped items.
Items are assigned both a level and a power rating, denoted by a Roman numeral and a crossed cannon icon, respectively. For instance, basic Culverin I cannons contribute 15 level points, while the rarer Culverin III provides 45. Armor also plays a critical role in determining your ship’s rank, although only one type of armor can be equipped at a time. The number of weapon and furnishing slots will expand based on the size of your ship, allowing you to ascend in rank.
Why do you need to level up?
In Skull and Bones, ship levels primarily signify survivability. You’ll notice that the most formidable ships are often higher in level than others. It’s advisable not to pit your Level 3 vessel against a Level 9 Rogue unless you’re prepared to face a crushing defeat.
As you progress further into the game, you’ll encounter increasingly formidable adversaries. Therefore, visit the Refinery, construct more potent ships, and continue sailing with determination.
