Nightingale | How to use Text Chat

Nightingale’s early access is here, offering a promising survival adventure to enjoy with friends. Effective in-game communication with these friends is undoubtedly a significant advantage.

While Discord and other voice chat platforms are popular choices, they may not suit everyone’s preferences. Fortunately, Nightingale includes a convenient built-in Text Chat feature, streamlining communication as swiftly as your typing pace. However, accessing this feature for the first time can be a bit perplexing. Here’s how to utilize in-game chat features in Nightingale.

Nightingale: How to use Text Chat

To initiate conversations with your companions in Nightingale, you must first complete the tutorial, which comprises three brief realm transitions from a Forest Biome to a Desert Biome and then to a Swamp Biome. Once this introductory phase is finished, you can select your next Biome and proceed to form parties.

Although Text Chat doesn’t necessitate being in a party, the option becomes available only after you’ve completed the tutorial, similar to the co-op party formation option. Once you’ve completed the introduction, you can access the party tab by pressing P. Despite the default Keybindings indicating that pressing T or Enter should open the Chat Box, pressing either key initially puts you in a peculiar state where your default mouse icon reappears, immobilizing you until you left-click anywhere on the screen. While it may seem like the Text Chat feature has been successfully activated, attempting to type yields no response.

To resolve this issue, you must manually left-click on the mail icon situated directly above the Chat Box at the bottom right corner of your screen. Upon clicking the icon, a cursor will appear in the box, enabling you to type messages. Press Enter to send your message, which will then appear in the Chat Box.

Interestingly, you only need to click on this mail icon the first time you use Text Chat in Nightingale. Subsequently, after sending any message, you can send future messages simply by pressing T or Enter, as indicated in the Keybindings menu.

Whether this behavior is an intentional feature or an unexpected bug remains unclear. Nonetheless, it certainly took me longer than I’d like to admit to grasp how to utilize Text Chat in Nightingale.
