Star Wars enthusiasts, suit up in your Beskar armor and brace yourselves: An upcoming Mandalorian video game might just be on the horizon.
According to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, Respawn Entertainment, known for titles like Apex Legends, Titanfall, and the Star Wars Jedi series, is reportedly diving into the development of a Mandalorian bounty hunter-themed first-person shooter.
Henderson reveals that players will assume the role of a Mandalorian bounty hunter during the era dominated by the Galactic Empire. As a bounty hunter, your task will involve capturing bounties, whether dead or alive, in exchange for lucrative rewards.
The game’s core focus will be on “mobility” and “style,” with creative director Mohammad Alvi initially leading the project before departing the studio in January 2022. Despite this, the project persists, with development ongoing. However, Henderson notes that its release is still a year or two away, at minimum, and whether it will include a multiplayer component remains uncertain.
The Mandalorian’s jetpack will play a crucial role in enhancing gameplay mobility, enabling horizontal dashes, vertical jumps, boost slides akin to those in Apex Legends, and more. Henderson describes the game as “very fast-paced,” with gameplay mechanics rewarding a dynamic playstyle, such as health regeneration tied to successive kills.
Furthermore, the game will not adopt an open-world format but instead offer linear levels set across various planets within the Star Wars universe. Players can expect an arsenal of weapons and gadgets at their disposal, including a wrist rocket, grapple hook, visor for enemy tagging, and more.
This news is sure to delight fans eagerly anticipating a Mandalorian gaming experience, particularly those fond of the canceled Boba Fett game, Star Wars 1313. With Respawn Entertainment at the helm, renowned for their success with the Star Wars franchise, having previously delivered hits like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
