How To Use Kelvin in Sons of the Forest

In contrast to the solitary journey of the protagonist in the original game, The Forest, the sequel, Sons of the Forest, introduces Kelvin, a noteworthy companion. Kelvin quickly captured the internet’s attention upon the game’s release, with his interactions becoming meme-worthy. However, beyond the memes, Kelvin proves to be a valuable asset in the game. But how can players utilize his assistance, and what are his limitations?

Sons of the Forest: How to Use Kelvin for Help?

Following the accident that strands the player and their companions on the mysterious island, Kelvin loses his hearing. To enlist Kelvin’s help, players must approach him for interaction. Instead of direct communication, a notepad interface appears on the screen. Initially, players can only command Kelvin to Follow, but as the game progresses, additional commands become available, including:

  • Get an Item and deliver it: Kelvin can be instructed to retrieve specific materials and either bring them to a designated location, hand them to the player, or accompany the player to the drop-off point.
  • Build: Players can direct Kelvin to construct various structures such as traps, shelters, and campfires.
  • Stay: Kelvin can be instructed to remain stationary or hide.
  • Take a break: It’s advisable to allow Kelvin periodic rest breaks, during which he may nap or relax. If fatigued, Kelvin may decline assistance. Fortunately, he can fend for himself regarding food and water, relieving players of the responsibility to feed him.
  • Clear (5/10/20 meters): To facilitate base construction, players can command Kelvin to clear the surrounding terrain by cutting trees or gathering materials.

At the game’s outset, Kelvin proves instrumental in establishing the initial shelter and fortifications before the onset of nocturnal threats. However, due to his hearing impairment, Kelvin cannot engage in combat against the mutants encountered in Sons of the Forest. Players must undertake battles independently to avoid risking Kelvin’s safety. Venturing into hazardous areas with Kelvin poses peril, potentially resulting in his demise.

Kelvin’s presence significantly eases the burden of survival, but players must exercise caution and prioritize their safety during encounters with hostile entities.
