How to leave your squad in Helldivers 2

You may have your reasons for wanting to leave your current squad in Helldivers 2, but actually doing so is a bit more complex than it appears. Traditional methods of departing from your squad won’t work, requiring a more hands-on approach.

If you’re playing Helldivers 2 in a co-op multiplayer setup with friends, you might find yourself in a perpetual party. However, for solo adventurers, seeking variety is also important. Personally, when playing alone, I prefer to team up with random players each match, leading to my desire to leave my squads after a few sessions together.

How do you abandon your party in Helldivers 2?

To depart from your squad in Helldivers 2, you’ll need to return to the ship and interact with the cryopod. Approaching the cryopod will prompt the option to “Return to Ship Alone,” allowing you to leave your current squad.

However, this option won’t be available if you’re the host. As the host, if you wish to leave your party, you’ll need to join an ongoing game. Remember, you’ll always be the host if you initiate missions yourself instead of joining existing ones through availability icons.

Many players believe that Helldivers 2’s difficulty scales with the number of players, so leaving a game might not be well-received by some. If you plan to leave your squad, ensure you don’t disrupt their experience by spawning a bunch of enemies unexpectedly. Departing peacefully should minimize any impact on their gameplay. Alternatively, you can join the same session as someone from your friends list instead of checking for available games.

In the early days of Helldivers 2, there were occasional issues with the friends list not functioning properly, but these errors became rare as the developers stabilized their servers.
