How to access the Mountaintop of the Giants
To reach the Mountaintop of the Giants in Elden Ring, your first task is to defeat Morgott, the Omen King, located in the Elden Throne within the Leyndell, Royal Capital Legacy Dungeon.
Morgott, the Omen King, poses a significant challenge with his potent magic and swift movements. His wide sword swings are capable of catching rolling movements, so mastering rolling into the swing is essential. In his second phase, be vigilant of the ground, as his watery eruptions can swiftly overwhelm an unprepared Tarnished.
While defeating Morgott may not seem directly linked to accessing the Mountaintop of the Giants, it is a necessary step because there is only one entrance to the Mountaintop. Unfortunately, there are no hidden teleports leading to the peak, so you must follow the intended story progression. This entails obtaining the Rold Medallion, which serves as the key to the elevator on the eastern side of Leyndell, essential for accessing this story-mandated area. Acquiring the Rold Medallion essentially serves as the boss reward for defeating Morgott, the Omen King.
After defeating Morgott, return to the Erdtree. Upon interacting with it, you’ll be informed of impenetrable thorns blocking your entry. Head back to the Site of Grace near the Throne and situate yourself, where Melina will visit you. She informs you of her own barred entry and directs you to continue your quest elsewhere, marking a point on your map in red: the Grand Lift of Rold.
If Melina fails to visit you, consider restarting the game, as this event trigger can be prone to breaking, especially when using mods. However, the game often recognizes Morgott’s defeat after traveling to Roundtable Hold or restarting the game.
How do you get to the Grand Lift of Rold?
To reach the Grand Lift of Rold, return to the main street of Leyndell, preferably from the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace, and follow these steps:
- Proceed northeast along the street until you encounter a pair of double doors, which you can open by interacting with them.
- Ascend the ramp populated by Misbegotten enemies, including a Leonin Misbegotten, and descend the elevator to access the Forbidden Lands map.
- Cross the bridge and defeat or bypass the Black Blade Kindred boss to reach the Grand Lift of Rold.
The Black Blade Kindred appears just before reaching the Lift, but engaging in this fight is optional. You can proceed past it, sit at the Site of Grace to the right, and then confront the gargoyle once you have a secure spawn point. Interact with the Lift using the “Hoist medallion” prompt to ascend to the Mountaintop of the Giants.
If you possess the Haligtree Secret Medallion, you’ll utilize it at this lift by following the “Hoist secret medallion” prompt, typically by pressing left or right on your D-pad. Opting for the Secret Medallion will transport you not to the Mountaintop, but to an optional area known as the Consecrated Snowfield—a distinct snowy locale from the valley.

The path on the Mountaintop winds north, then east, and finally south, allowing you to traverse the area within an hour—provided you’re adequately leveled to challenge the colossal boss of the region. However, numerous high-level events await completion for endgame progression, such as obtaining half of the Haligtree Medallion from Castle Sol.
