To craft ink in Nightingale, you must obtain refined pigment and glass after constructing a mortar station, smelter, and saw table. Upon building the mortar station, you’ll find the alchemical ink recipe under refinement, requiring pigment crafted at the same station and glass smelted at the smelter.
Building a Mortar Station, Smelter and Saw Table
Producing ink necessitates erecting three refinement structures: the simple saw table, smelter, and mortar station. Each crafting station requires purchasing their respective blueprints from an Essence Trader, with the first one you encounter situated near the Antiquarian Site of Power.
Firstly, you’ll require the saw table, which you construct using the following materials:
- Eight wood bundle
- Four stone block
- Four animal fibre
By now, you’ll have an axe and mining picks to gather wood bundles from trees and stone blocks from large rocks. Animal fibre is obtained by utilizing raw meat at a tanning station, constructed in previous quests. Utilize eight pieces of meat at a tanning station to acquire animal fibre for the saw table.
Next, you need a smelter, requiring the following resources:
- Four stone block
- Six rocks
This is the easiest structure to build among the three needed for ink, requiring only a pickaxe and nearby large rocks. Break boulders to obtain stone blocks and collect small stones from the ground to acquire rocks before constructing this structure. Although not mandatory for making the mortar station, you’ll need to smelt glass for ink.
Lastly, if you haven’t yet acquired a mortar station, you can purchase its blueprint from an Essence Trader for 55 Essence Dust and construct it using the following resources:
Fibre is relatively simple to obtain, as you can find some by harvesting plants around the world. Lumber, however, requires utilizing wood bundles at the saw table constructed earlier. Gather six wood bundles from trees and process them at your saw table to obtain the lumber needed for your mortar station.
Crafting refined pigment and ink
Once you have your three crafting stations, it’s time to produce ink. To create alchemical ink, you’ll need the following items:
Refined pigment requires two pigments, essentially berries, flowers, or mushrooms. To quickly obtain some, search for nearby berry bushes and mushrooms, then process them at the mortar station to create refined pigment.
Next, you need glass, requiring two gems. Explore until you encounter large boulders with clear gems protruding from the sides to obtain raw gems. Once you have at least two gems, smelt them into glass at your smelter before returning to your mortar station. Combine your pigment and glass to produce 12 alchemical ink, which can be used with paper to create Realm Cards.
