How to edit appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3

You can customize your character’s appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3 by swapping armor and dyeing it, but there’s also a way to completely alter your character’s look using a specific item known as the Magic Mirror. This item is accessible to all players right from the beginning of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How to customize appearance

Once you finish the prologue and reach the beach, which typically takes about thirty minutes to an hour, you’ll gain access to the Magic Mirror. Located in the camp, the Magic Mirror allows you to modify your character’s appearance. To access camp, click on the campfire icon in the bottom right corner and select “Return to Campsite.”

When you first start Baldur’s Gate 3, character creation is your initial task. While you can spend time customizing your character at this stage, it’s not your only chance for customization. The game provides ample opportunities for you to adjust your character’s appearance throughout your journey.

You don’t need to complete quests or spend money to use the Magic Mirror as you would with respeccing at Withers. It’s always accessible in camp, free to use, and there’s no limit to how many times you can use it. Easily locate it by checking the Magic Mirror icon on your minimap.

What edits to your character can you make with the Magic Mirror?

With the Magic Mirror, you can alter various aspects of your character’s appearance, such as hair, hair color, gender, scars, and skin color. However, you cannot change your character’s race, as it’s tied to your build. Additionally, you cannot apply modifications to Origin characters since their physical appearances are fixed.

After significant fights or completing Acts in Baldur’s Gate 3, my party and I often return to the Magic Mirror to make subtle changes to our characters, aligning with our story progression. For instance, my Halfing Bard initially sported a red-headed, spry look with a goatee. As the story unfolded, he acquired more scars, wrinkles, and longer hair.

Accepting Illithid Powers at the end of Act 2 left my character’s face with permanent purple veins. To reflect this transformation, I adjusted his skin pigment to light purple and his hair to a greyish-purple hue. Yet, a touch of orange remained in his hair as a reminder of his initial appearance.

Customizing your characters’ appearances enhances the roleplaying experience in BG3. If you’re still navigating through Act 1, ensure you complete the Act 1 checklist to avoid missing any content.
