Helldivers 2 | Is the EAT-17 or Recoilless Rifle Better?

After leveling up and gathering some Requisition Slips, you might be wondering about the most effective way to deal with the armored foes appearing in your missions, whether they’re big bugs or robots. Luckily, you have at least two viable options to consider, so let’s examine them.

EAT-17 vs. Recoilless Rifle: Pros and Cons

The EAT-17 boasts a short cooldown for two “shots,” while the Recoilless Rifle operates on a longer cooldown for five rounds. This distinction results in slightly different applications, depending on your squad size and, more importantly, whether you have a teammate to assist with reloading.

In short, solo players benefit more from the EAT-17. By “solo players,” I also refer to those who join Pick-Up Groups (PUGs) and don’t engage in much verbal communication with their team. With the EAT-17’s ability to summon two disposable rifles every 70 seconds, you can swiftly deploy them in strategic locations, retrieve them easily, and swiftly deal with armored targets. Additionally, the EAT-17 can be combined with other Support weapons, allowing you to retrieve your primary weapon after using the EAT-17, such as a flamethrower or grenade launcher.

On the other hand, the Recoilless Rifle shines when paired with a teammate. Upon deployment, it consists of two components: a backpack and a rifle. Have a teammate grab the backpack and stand to your right with the rifle ready. They can then assist you by quickly reloading between shots, enabling efficient elimination of tough enemies like Bile Titans, Chargers, Hulks, and Tanks. The Recoilless Rifle excels in boss encounters or situations requiring consecutive shots in quick succession.

If you’re still early in the game, utilizing other early game stratagems like mortar turrets can help level the playing field against the seemingly relentless waves of automatons in the ongoing battle.
