Sometimes, I simply crave some alien-blasting action all by myself. Is that really too much to ask for? As more and more video games push for multiplayer experiences to foster unity among players, here’s the lowdown on whether Helldivers 2 allows for offline play.
Is Helldivers 2 online only?
Regrettably, Helldivers 2 does not offer an offline mode. The core concept of Helldivers revolves around you, the player, teaming up with other Helldivers (whether friends or strangers) to fend off the invading factions threatening the Sol system. Super Earth is under siege by the Terminid and Automaton.
While Helldivers 2 emphasizes online play, it doesn’t mean you’re entirely barred from solo adventures. Adjust your Matchmaking Privacy settings to “Friends Only” to avoid random groupings. Steer clear of Quickplay sessions and opt for planets devoid of other Helldivers. Yes, your options may be somewhat limited as friendly ships patrol the Operations you’re eyeing, but that’s the compromise for flying solo.
You can check for ongoing missions by fellow Helldivers on the Galactic War console. Simply steer clear of these sessions and select a different Operation. Additionally, filter through the unlocked difficulty settings to minimize the chances of encountering other players. However, I strongly advise against solo players tackling higher difficulties and team-oriented missions solo.
Keep in mind that you might coincide with another Helldiver orbiting the same planet. In such cases, you can either exit the game or attempt to redeploy at a different Operation via the Galactic War console. Avoid entering the Hellpod, as doing so will require you to complete the mission with a new party member.
