Is the desert buggy car in FF7 Rebirth?

Fans of the original Final Fantasy 7 surely recall the thrill of acquiring the buggy, marking the first foray into long-distance travel on the World Map beyond Chocobos. While Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth shares many similarities with its predecessor, there are also notable differences. Thus, one might ask: Does FF7 Rebirth feature the desert buggy car? Let’s delve into it.

Can you get the buggy in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?

Absolutely, the desert buggy car indeed makes its appearance in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. While its functionality may have undergone some adjustments from the original, the buggy remains a vital means of traversing the Corel Region. Unlike the Grasslands and Junon Regions, where capturing a Chocobo via Chocobo Intel is customary, the Corel Region operates differently.

While you can still summon a standard Chocobo in the Corel Region, the primary mode of transport becomes the buggy once unlocked through the story progression, an event that transpires in Chapter 9. Acquisition of the buggy is inevitable as long as you advance through the narrative.

How to get the buggy in FF7 Rebirth

The desert buggy car becomes available automatically at the onset of Chapter 9 in FF7 Rebirth. Simply continue advancing through the Main Scenario, and upon completing the Corel Prison segment, you’ll gain access to the buggy. Once obtained, summoning the buggy in the Corel Region is as easy as pressing down on the D-Pad.

Upon summoning, the buggy’s self-driving technology seamlessly brings it to your side, akin to the Chocobo’s magical appearance. Entering the buggy is as simple as pressing Triangle, with R1 serving to exit. Control-wise, accelerate with R2 and reverse with L2. An added perk: the buggy automatically collects materials as you drive over them, eliminating the need for incessant Triangle spamming.

It’s worth noting, however, that the buggy is exclusive to the Corel Region and cannot be summoned in preceding or subsequent regions.
