Gammel is an early encounter in Unicorn Overlord, presenting players with a moral dilemma: whether to incarcerate him or grant him freedom. But which path should you take?
Letting Gammel go vs. putting Gammel in jail in Unicorn Overlord
Found in Coquillage Town, Gammel is aligned with the Dark Talon bandits. Following his defeat in battle, he shares a heartfelt tale about his ailing sister. Your decision hinges on whether to believe his narrative.
Sending Gammel to jail
In the current demo, incarcerating Gammel with the Night Watch yields no immediate consequences. You forfeit recruitment of Gammel, with Rolf joining your party instead. Due to the demo’s constraints, the ultimate repercussions of this choice remain unknown. Nonetheless, a brief cutscene depicts Dark Talon bandits liberating Gammel from confinement, vowing retribution against your party.
Letting Gammel go
If you opt to release Gammel, he departs solo, sans his Dark Talon associates. As he exits town, he casts a lingering glance in your direction, declaring, “I won’t forget this as long as I live.” Despite this, Rolf still joins your ranks, and you reap the rewards for quest completion. In the full game, there may be an opportunity to recruit Gammel or his sister without incurring his enmity, though this remains conjecture until the official release.
