Despite the convenience of downloading digital editions of games like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, there’s a certain nostalgia attached to purchasing physical copies. However, with FF7 Rebirth, the presence of two discs has led to some confusion regarding installation.
Here’s everything you need to know to get started playing FF7 Rebirth from the discs.
FF7 Rebirth: Why are there two discs?
The physical edition of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth includes two discs because the game file is too large to fit on a single disc while retaining full game functionality. Consequently, one disc contains the first half of FF7 Rebirth, while the other holds the remainder.
However, determining which disc to insert first for installing FF7 Rebirth and which one for playing is causing some unexpected challenges for players.
FF7 Rebirth: Which disc do I insert first?
To install FF7 Rebirth on your PS5 using the physical discs, adhere to these steps:
- Insert the Play Disc (the black disc) into your PS5 and follow the on-screen instructions to install the initial portion of the game.
- Once installation is complete, remove the disc.
- Insert the Data Disc (the white disc) into your PS5 and follow the prompts to install the remaining portion of FF7 Rebirth.
That’s all there is to it. Some players encounter issues if they insert the white disc first, resulting in an error. However, if this happens, simply remove it and insert the black disc to initiate the installation process. Then, when you’re ready to play FF7 Rebirth on your PS5, only insert the Data Disc (the white one).
While reports of printing issues have surfaced from Japan, with the physical discs having the Play Disc and Data Disc names swapped, this shouldn’t affect you if you’re outside Japan—everything should be in order.
Nevertheless, to ensure a smooth installation of FF7 Rebirth, just remember to insert the black disc first, followed by the white disc for installation.
