How to ping in Helldivers 2: Ping map guide

Request reinforcements or mark points of interest with the Helldiver 2 ping system to prepare for missions in advance. Here’s a comprehensive guide to understanding the Helldivers 2 ping system.

How to ping in Helldivers 2

Pinging in Helldivers 2 is straightforward once you become familiar with the controls. All pinging actions are performed using R1 (PS5) or Q (PC). You can ping via the mini-map or by placing markers on the planet, visible to you and other Helldivers. Simply press R1 or Q to mark an area of interest, whether it’s the main objective, a secondary objective, an Outpost, or a Nest. Additionally, you can ping players towards Minor Places of Interest with a golden beam.

The ping system notifies players of nearby enemies, reducing confusion and visual clutter. Marking enemies, Outposts, Nests, and objectives informs everyone—including yourself—of your intentions, particularly beneficial in public matches where verbal communication isn’t feasible.

You can enhance your pings by holding R1 or Q to access the Communications wheel. Here, you can choose from various commands to communicate with fellow Helldivers, similar to using a microphone. With eight available commands, you can:

  • Place a location marker to indicate where you want to go.
  • Instruct the team to halt movement to avoid patrols or defend an area.
  • Confirm other pings with a “Yes” response.
  • Express gratitude to teammates providing cover.
  • Request a Supply Drop for needed supplies.
  • Apologize for accidental friendly-fire incidents.
  • Disagree with location pings by responding with “No”.
  • Lead your team by directing them to group up, attack, or retreat with “Follow me”.

How to place map markers on Helldivers 2

Press the DualSense touchpad on PS5 or Tab on PC to open the mini-map. Use the d-pad directional buttons or right-click with the mouse to navigate the mini-map. You can drop a single marker, labeled as M1, onto the mini-map. Additionally, you can ping the extraction zone, secondary objectives, Nests, and Outposts for clear visibility on your radar and screen after exiting the mini-map.

Pinging is beneficial for solo players too. Although you won’t communicate with other Helldivers, marking Supply Drops, Minor Places of Interest, secondary objectives, or the extraction zone aids in navigation. This feature remains useful throughout a mission, particularly if you lack armor or a Radar Station to reveal map markers.

Pinging markers on the mini-map also indicates the direction of the ping, helping others locate enemies or points of interest. The mini-map is particularly useful for identifying Outposts and Nests (shown as red dots) at the mission’s onset.
