Bastille of Agility challenges present a unique hurdle in Nightingale, offering the potential for Essence and other rewards but proving to be quite formidable to conquer.
While the game portrays these challenges as tests of agility, focusing on jumping and climbing, tackling them successfully requires more than just physical prowess. In reality, they are more akin to tests of strategy and problem-solving. Here’s how to navigate and triumph over the Bastille of Agility puzzles in Nightingale.
Bastille of Agility challenges, explained
Once you reach your Antiquarian Realm, Bastilles of Insight, Intellect, and Agility become available as random encounters on the map. These challenges resemble Puzzle Core challenges but offer greater difficulty and rewards.
Despite being labeled as tests of dexterity, Bastilles of Agility do not solely rely on physical agility. Instead, they demand cleverness and ingenuity to overcome.
Deciphering the true objective of a Bastille of Agility can be the most challenging aspect of completing them. Each Bastille contains a Hope Echo, marked on your map after completing the Fae Tower, which you must reach and release to solve the challenge.
Although the Hope Echoes are described as “hidden,” they are typically positioned in hard-to-reach locations rather than being truly concealed. The real challenge lies in reaching these elevated points, often situated atop tall pillars or other inaccessible areas.
Successfully reaching the isolated Hope Echo signifies the completion of a Bastille of Agility, as indicated by the marked completion on your map.
How to reach the Fae artefact in a Bastille of Agility
While the intended method involves using Climbing Picks and Potions, an alternative strategy can make these challenges more manageable. After struggling to climb to the Echo in my first Bastille of Agility, I discovered a different approach.
Utilizing the ability to build staircases in Nightingale, even without an Estate nearby, proved to be the key to consistently completing Bastille of Agility challenges. Upon locating the Hope Echo, typically positioned in a high and challenging area, constructing staircases facilitates reaching it with ease.
Although maintaining Climbing Picks is advisable for efficiency, building staircases emerges as the most reliable method for conquering these challenges. In fact, it’s plausible that some Bastilles of Agility may be unsolvable without resorting to this strategy.
In essence, these challenges require more intellectual acumen than sheer physical agility. Therefore, they might be better labeled as Bastilles of Intellect.
