How To Build a Roof in Sons of the Forest

On this island of mutants, cannibals, and much worse things like demons, safety is paramount. During your time lost in this place, having a base becomes essential for resting, storing your findings, and sheltering from the harsh weather. Thus, one of the few ways to protect yourself and your companions from the myriad dangers in Sons of the Forest is by constructing a sturdy roof. Assume the role of the architect of your base.

How To Build a Sturdy Roof?

The key aspect in Sons of the Forest is to secure an ideal location before commencing the construction of your base’s roof. Different materials will be available depending on the area. For instance, being near trees makes acquiring wood for your home easier. However, you’ll need to clear the area, though Kelvin can assist with that. Once you’ve gathered sufficient logs, it’s time to begin building. The simplest approach is to envision square structures with logs spaced one apart.

  • Begin by creating the foundation on the ground, placing a log on each side to form a square.
  • Cut logs in half to obtain enough pieces for the floor, then place them atop the square you’ve just constructed.
  • Position a vertical log in each corner of the square to initiate the walls’ construction.
  • Continue placing logs horizontally until the structure is complete, forming the walls.
  • For a flat roof, place additional logs cut in half, similar to the floor construction.
  • To create windows or a door, use your axe to indicate where to make cuts; a red dotted line will appear.
  • Cut logs in half for the door, then vertically place them in the designated space.

How to Build Different Roof Styles

You now possess the knowledge to construct a basic small roofed shelter in Sons of the Forest, but you can elevate it to a more stylish fortress. You can begin by expanding the space, always maintaining the basic square structure. When there are two logs at a distance, insert one in the middle to maintain structural integrity. Here are the different roof styles:

  • Inclined: Utilize the four vertical logs of the walls to cut two sides to the desired height. Then, add a sloped log connecting the longer and shorter sides and fill it with wood.
  • Full of logs: Construct a triangular structure filled with full logs. For instance, use 2 horizontal logs, place 1 log in the middle atop the others, and add one log on each side to create a triangular shape. Adjust the length of the logs according to the design.

Follow the colored lines and arrows for guidance during construction; they are also vital when adding electric power to your base.
