Can Rotom be Shiny in Pokémon Go?

Not every Pokémon in Pokémon Go has a Shiny variant, and this is by design. Certain Pokémon appear exclusively during special events, and with Rotom now appearing, many players are curious about the possibility of encountering a Shiny one.

Rotom is a unique addition to Pokémon Go and has assumed various forms over the years. Now, as Rotom debuts in Pokémon Go during the Pokémon Go Tour: Sinnoh event, alongside several other new additions, players are eager to know if a Shiny version will be available for capture.

Does Rotom have a Shiny version in Pokémon Go?

It seems that Rotom, making its debut in Pokémon Go, will indeed be available in a Shiny variant. Currently, confirmation comes from a single Twitter post shared by PoGoCentral, a reliable source that regularly disseminates such information based on community input during live events. They advise players not attending the Los Angeles in-person event to hold off redeeming their ticket until the Global event for the best chance of encountering a Shiny Rotom, although this cannot be confirmed. The image has also been shared on Reddit.

As of now, only one individual has obtained the Shiny version and shared it with the community. We can anticipate further confirmations as more players unlock the Ghost in the Machine research, which partially leaked during the Carnival of Love event.

The Ghost in the Machine research code is accessible to all Pokémon Go players who redeem it, located somewhere at the Rose Bowl Stadium. Those attending the in-person Pokémon Go Tour: Sinnoh event are tasked with sharing it, thereby unlocking the research for all players. Niantic had hinted leading up to the event that Rotom would stir up trouble, and it seems the standard form is ready to take the spotlight.

While Wash Rotom made its appearance during Pokémon Go Fest 2020, the Pokémon Go Tour: Sinnoh event marks the debut of the standard Rotom version. It’s reassuring to know that we likely won’t have to wait for another opportunity to encounter a Shiny variant, considering how limited Rotom has been in Pokémon Go. However, we are still eagerly awaiting the Heat and Fan Rotom forms to make their appearances in future Pokémon Go events.

The larger, global Pokémon Go Tour: Sinnoh event takes place from Feb. 24 to 25. To participate, you’ll need a ticket, granting you the opportunity to encounter and capture Origin Forme Dialga and Origin Forme Palkia. Like Rotom, these Pokémon are only available for a limited time, so gather your friends and seize the chance to add them to your collection. Best of luck in your quest to capture a Shiny Rotom!
