Helldivers 2 | How to kill Scout Striders

As the challenges escalate in Helldivers 2, the formidable Automaton forces also grow in strength and size, presenting a greater challenge in bringing down their imposing stature. Here’s the strategy to defeat a Scout Strider in Helldivers 2.

What are Scout Striders and when do they appear in Helldivers 2?

Scout Striders belong to the Automaton faction in Helldivers 2, emerging from Medium difficulty onwards. Typically stationed as guards for outposts and secondary objectives, Scout Striders maintain a stationary position rather than patrolling, resembling the AT-ST Walker from Star Wars. Armed with a powerful turret and capable of delivering high-impact shots from range, they also employ melee attacks with their feet when in close proximity.

How to kill a Scout Strider in Helldivers 2

Unlike many enemies in Helldivers 2 where weak spots are obvious, Scout Striders possess weak points on their limbs. Similar to Necromorphs in Dead Space, targeting their limbs with sustained damage or explosions can incapacitate them. Utilize support weapons or high-damage primary weapons unlocked via the Warbond battle pass to achieve this.

Several effective weapons against Scout Striders include:

  • SG-225 Breaker
  • G-12 High Explosive grenade
  • MG-43 Machine Gun (Stratagem)
  • R-63 Diligence
  • PLAS-1 Scorcher
  • G-16 Impact grenade
  • M-105 Stalwart

Concentrate fire on one of the Scout Strider’s legs to incapacitate it, causing the Automaton to collapse. Avoid aiming at the turret, as it inflicts minimal damage and depletes ammunition unnecessarily. Alternatively, a well-placed grenade with significant damage (such as the G-12 or G-16) can effectively neutralize a Scout Strider, provided it detonates in close proximity.

Additionally, prioritize strategic positioning, ensuring you engage the Scout Striders from a safe distance with adequate cover. Swiftly eliminate their lower-tier allies before they summon reinforcements, either through a Stratagem barrage or by luring the Scout Striders away from their cohorts. Adapt your tactics based on your loadout and the demands of the situation.
